A few more pics

Here's a few pictures from the Green River Fire today, Nov 15, 2008. Anne Marie and Lawrence lost a fence in the backyard and had to evacuate for most of the day. Some of these are pictures from some of the houses just down the street from their house.

Christmas Letter 2008

Christmas Letter 2007 (Update for the year 2007)

Ok, Ok, I have a real reason this is late this year. You've heard of the Writer's strike haven't you. Well being the liberal that Erin accuses me of, I just couldn't cross the picket line by writing this letter. It's now January 3rd and seeing as Dave and Jay have returned to work, I'll get this going.

Just like every piece of software we own, this letter has to be updated to the latest version each year.

Well once again it's time for the annual letter updating everyone on the past year's ....... Just like every piece of software we own, this letter has to be updated to the latest version each year. It seems that I have entered the 3rd stage of life. The first stage was when I believed in Santa Clause, during the second stage I really didn't believe in Santa Clause and now as I enter the third stage I have come to believe that I am Santa Clause. Money isn't everything but it sure keeps the kids in touch. Every Tuesday meeting for pizza, vacations etc.

Sarah – Well Sarah is in the lead with her second child. Drew Jackson was born this past year. I really don't know the exact date, but it was between last year's letter and this one. (That's why it is part of the update) Sarah and John are beginning to enter the second stage of parent hood. Up until recently they have spent the first 2 years having kids and not being able to wait to see them walk and talk. Now they are beginning the next 16 years where they will be telling them to sit down and shut-up. (Go to time out, do you want to go home etc) About the only time that Luke (2 year old) stops talking is when he is asleep. He is getting them trained well. You can pretty much follow their life story day by day on their blog, www.drewandluke.blogspot.com

Erin – Erin became a mother this year. Jett Thomas Bunch was born during this update year. He is officially known by me as Jet Blue. Sean has been in Australia since April of this year and is home for two weeks during the holiday season. He is working on an HBO mini series which is a follow up to Band of Brothers. He says the writer's strike hasn't affected him. I guess that let's you know how many lines he has had on a one year project. By the way, if the writers are on strike, how do they get their message on the signs they are carrying around?? Erin is still very mis-lead on her political beliefs. I asked her once how we could have gone so wrong with her up bringing to have her believe as she does. She said it's probably because she was a gifted child. I agreed with her and said she was really re-gifted because with her beliefs I certainly wouldn't have paid for her. (Here's Jett's daily show: www.jettbunch.blogspot.com )

Josh – Josh was recently promoted to a management position at Best Buy. It's a little frightening to think that he's got the keys to opening and closing, making deposits, schedules etc. This is the same son that thought the only way to double your money was to fold it over and put it back in your pocket. He does his best to ensure spending and the economy are positive. He is also into photography and has picked up a couple of weddings on his own this year. (Actually he has undercut the hell out of me to pick up a couple of them and if that wasn't bad enough, he then asked me to assist him.) He is still not totally sure of what his ultimate goal in life is.. He talked of other management positions at Best Buy, Teaching, Photography, Graphic Arts and construction. Some of the motos that Josh lives by: If at first you don't succeed, redefine success; Spend it while you can appreciate it; spend it while your young; can't take it with you; you only live once; Savings account??? What's that!!!!

Matt – Matt is mid way through his 3rd year of vet school and recently did his first surgery. I know it sounds impressive, but come to find out it was just a neuter. He said everything went fine. That's the beauty for being a vet, you don't get a lot of complaints from the patient I reminded him that growing up in the Mid-West, most kids were helping with neuters (castrations) on the farm by age 12.... He didn't see the humor in that. He came home for Christmas on a Friday and left for San Diego on Saturday to see 'Double J' her real name is Jennifer and she goes by JJ thus Double J from here on out. She is also in her 3rd year of Vet school at UC Davis. .....................

Anne Marie and her Family: Lawrence, Ethan, Raquel

Cathy – It has been said that a parent's reward for not killing their children through the teenage years is Grandchildren. Cathy has definitely got her reward. She likes nothing better than to baby sit etc. Although she still says that she's not old enough to be a Grandmother. The kids call her MoMo. Sarah and Erin might just be taking advantage of her. She is now invited to go shopping with them on a daily basis. Guess who gets to hold and walk them around the store. When she's not watching the grandkids, she is compulsively cleaning. It's gotten so bad that Molly, the dog, has to hide or she will end up getting her teeth cleaned. When I asked her why the dogs teeth she says it is so she will not have bad breath. Remember this is for an animal that goes around sniffing other dogs butts and any piece of poop she can find in the front yard.

Butch– Cathy is still watching out for my health and trying to monitor what I eat. I do realize it's a tough job for her and that she only wants whats best for me. I tried to argue that I really don't deserve the best and some of the not so best would do like cheap hamburgers, etc. She didn't think it was too funny. It seems that I have entered the 3rd stage of life. The first stage was when I believed in Santa Clause, during the second stage I really didn't believe in Santa Clause and now as I enter the third stage I have come to believe that I am Santa Clause. They say that money isn't everything but it sure keeps the kids in touch. I wonder how often we would see them if it wasn't meeting for pizza, going on vacations, etc.

Part of the benefit of sending this late is that I get to see and hear from everyone prior to sending our family's letter. As I look at the family pictures of all of you, it's easy to see that we are all getting older. I know that we don't look any older, it's just that our children are beginning to look middle-aged. So as a parting tip, Be nice to your kids. They'll choose your nursing home some day.

If a thing is worth doing wouldn't it have been done already? See, letter done....

The Owens Family,,,

Butch, Cathy, Sarah, Erin, Josh, Matt and others..................
